Digital elevation models (DEM) for hydraulics
Reliable Digital Elevation Models (DEM) and accurate LIDAR data are key for LiDAR flood mappping and modelling projects. Since 2003, Dielmo 3D provides the most accurate Digital Terrain Models for hydrological studies and flood modelling. We optimize our workflow and products to each project depending on available LiDAR data (from low point density /public data up to ultra-dense point clouds).
- Accurate LiDAR classification for high precision DEM generation
- Custom DEM generation with/ without bridges, structures, other features
- Riverbed QC workflow tested on thousands of Square Km worldwide
- LiDAR Bathymetric profiles generation
Riverbend correction in DEM
When it comes to carrying out a flooding and river flows study, the most important thing is to have the riverbed and its surroundings well defined.
To respond to this, in DIELMO we have developed specific and customizable algorithms to prevent the riverbed from closing on 3D models. In addition we integrate bathymetric profiles with LIDAR data to obtain a continuous model resulting from the fusion of both data sources (more info below).
- Riverbed correction to avoid interpolation errors.
- Integration of bathymetric profiles.
- Exclusive interpolation method of our own development.
INTEGRATION OF LiDAR BATHYMETRIC PROFILES
LiDAR topographic sensors are not capable of penetrating underwater. This translates into the absence of a LiDAR point cloud in the water bodies or in the measurement of the surface in the case of vegetation.
In certain hydraulic studies, it is interesting to incorporate into the two-dimensional model the real dimensions of the riverbed that remain submerged.
To solve this problem, in DIELMO we have developed our own LiDAR flood mapping methodology, to integrate bathymetric profiles made by classical topography into the LiDAR Digital Terrain Model (DTM), for an optimal riverbed correction.
- The bathymetric profiles are interpolated in the direction of the river.
- A new DTM is obtained by estimating the bathymetric dimensions from topographic profiles.
- It ensures that the water does not run out of the channel due to interpolation problems.
- The accuracy of the original LiDAR data is maintained in DTMs thanks to our unique interpolation method.
