LiDAR technology has wide acceptance in forestry, as it measures the altitude of the terrain and the altitude of the top of vegetation simultaneously. Obtaining the height of vegetation, also in heavily vegetated areas where optical sensors can not capture the land, gives the possibility of getting the vegetation structure in 3 dimensions.
Thus, LiDAR technology and its applications in forestry is still a revolution to come, as it was the appearance of the orthophotos. Combining existing maps, more accurate MDTs, the forest structure in three dimensions and GIS tools, we can offer you a powerful tool for analysis of forest structure and for the interpretation of multiple parameters automatically, in a faster and cheaper way.
DIELMO is working had-by-hand with Balma Forestal SLP, a forestry company, to develop innovative applications for forestry. These revolutionary tools can be applied with excelent results to large extensions, using existing LiDAR data coverages that can minimize costs. In the following gallery of links, you can find more information about some of the forestry applications we are working on.
